Sunday, June 23, 2024 • 17 Sivan 5784
2:00 PM - 4:00 PMDetroit Historical MuseumFrom 1880 to 1930, Hastings Street was home to working-class Jews who fled Eastern Europe, driven by the terror and violence of antisemitism. As they struggled to become Americans, they restyled the neighborhood into a haven for Jewish life filled with synagogues, Hebrew schools, Kosher butcher shops, and Yiddish theatres. Old and new ways rubbed shoulders, not always comfortably. Join CLUB ZED for this engaging docent-led tour, and take a walk back in time to Hastings Street's heyday,
where everyday life was full of the choices, adversities, innovations, tensions, and synergies that defined this incomparable place.
DHM Parking: Kirby St. Lot (between Woodward & Cass Avenues): $9 during Museum Hours.
