10:45 AM - 1:00 PMOrley Hall

It has been one year since the horrific terror attack of October 7th which led to the ongoing war in Israel.

Join us for an enriching session of connection, reflection, and shared experiences of Alon Lachman, former Shinshin, and Lior Zisser-Yogev, community Shlicha. Alon will share his personal story and significant moments from his experience as a soldier in reserve duty in Israel, offering insight into the challenges, triumphs, and everyday life that have shaped the passing year.

Generously sponsored by Joy and Allan Nachman

Lior Zisser-Yogev is the Israeli Shlicha (emissary) for the Jewish Agency for Israel in Detroit. She works in the Jewish Federation, where she oversees Israel programming and education throughout the Jewish community, with various organizations and partners.

Lior grew up in Givat Ella in Emek Izrael in Detroit’s Partnership2Gether region. As a teen, Lior participated in the first Israel Camper Program to Tamarack in 2002, and after meeting the Jewish community of Michigan in camp, she decided to get involved in Shlichut and Israel education.

After finishing her army service as a combat soldier and a teacher, Lior spent two years as a community Shlicha in Peoria, Illinois, and a summer as a Shlicha in Sydney, Australia.

For the past eight years Lior worked in various roles for different ministries in the Israeli government.

Lior has a BA in Education and Political Science, and MA in Public Policy and Management (both from the Hebrew University) and a teaching certificate in civil studies.

Lior moved here from Israel with her family- her husband Gil, and their daughters- Zeve and Rona.

Alon Lachman, 23 years old, grew up in Migdal Ha'Emek in northern Israel, part of the partnership region of the Jewish community of Detroit.

Alon was a camper in the Israeli Camper Program in Tamarack in 2014 and 2017, and came back to Michigan in 2019 as a Shinshin, a gap-year volunteer, working for the Jewish Federation, Frankel Jewish Academy and other congregations and organizations throughout the community.

Alon was a fighter in the 101 Paratrooper Battalion in the IDF and was released from active duty in August 2023.

On October 7th- Alon was called back immediately to reserve duty and participated in the war in Gaza and in the northern boarder of Israel for several months.

Alon is visiting Detroit, and we are privileged to have him here to share his story with us.
